Nearly 100 local officials join Lakas-CMD in 2 days; find out where they're from

When it rains, it pours for the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party. 

In just two days, a total of 92 incumbent local officials from nine provinces have joined the House Speaker Martin Romualdez-led party. 

“We proudly welcome our new members into the Lakas-CMD family. The oath of membership, you took reaffirms our shared commitment to the values and principles that guide our party,” said Romualdez, who administered the series of oath-taking rites within the House of Representatives in Basatan, Quezon City. 

The dominant political party continues to strengthen its ranks less than two months away from the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 2025 mid-term elections. 

“Together, let us fortify our collective resolve to serve the Filipino people with integrity, dedication, and unity and to work towards a brighter and more prosperous future for the Filipino nation,” added Romualdez, arguably President Marcos' top ally in the legislature. 

On Monday, Aug. 12, 43 local officials from provinces of Quezon, Catanduanes, Albay, and Camiguin joined Lakas-CMD's fold. This batch was headlined by Catanduanes Governor Joseph Chua Cua, and at least nine mayors from the four provinces. 

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, 49 more local officials from Bulacan, Zambales, Mindoro Oriental, La Union, and Iloilo switched to Lakas-CMD.  They were led by Zambales Vice Governor Jacqueline Rose Khonghun, plus 11 mayors from the five provinces. 

"As you take your oath, you are not merely joining a political party—you are becoming part of a movement that has, for decades, been a pillar of strength, unity, and progress in our beloved nation,” Romualdez told the new members.
