The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Saturday, April 7, that there would be no face-to-face classes in all public schools nationwide on April 8.
In a public advisory, DepEd said that “all public schools nationwide shall implement asynchronous classes/distance learning” on Monday, April 8.
DepEd explained that this decision was made “in order to allow learners to complete pending assignments, projects, and other requirements.”
In a separate message to reporters via Viber, DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa explained that the decision to shift to distance learning was also due to April 8 being affected by the holidays.
April 9 (Tuesday) is the observance of the Day of Valor, while Malacañang declared April 10 (Wednesday) as a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid'l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan.
“Basically, [it’s] the best time for learners to use the time to complete pending matters that they need to complete,” Poa explained.
Moreover, DepEd stated that teaching and non-teaching personnel in all public schools “shall not be required to report to their stations.”
For private schools, DepEd mentioned that they “shall not be covered by this advisory but shall have the option to implement the same.
