Filipino skywatchers can catch the Leonid meteor shower from Nov. 6 to 30, with the best chance to see shooting stars on Nov. 17, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its astronomical diary for November, PAGASA said the best chance to view the meteor shower is after the constellation Leo rises over the eastern horizon at approximately 11:51 p.m.
During the peak hours of the shower, which occurs between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., observers can expect to see up to 15 meteors per hour.
However, PAGASA said moonlight will significantly interfere with visibility during peak activity.
It noted that the Leonid meteor shower can be enjoyed with the naked eye, as no special equipment such as telescopes or binoculars is required.
For an optimal viewing experience, PAGASA recommended finding a dark location away from city lights and to choose a night when the sky is clear and moonless.
