K-pop star Kim Myung-soo to be more active in PH in partnership with Universal Records, GLXY


K-pop idol and actor Kim Myung-soo, known as L of boy band Infinite, will be more active in the Philippines with a partnership that aims for the release of new songs and collaboration, participation in drama series and movies, and endorsements.  

On Nov. 12, Kim Myung-soo (김명수) attended a contract signing event in Manila with music label Universal Records Philippines and GLXY Entertainment, a digital content, talent and events management company.

The two companies will represent him for his activities in the Philippines. 

Also attending the contract signing ceremony were Kathleen Dy-Go, Universal Records Philippines managing director; Ramon Chuaying, Universal Records Philippines vice president; Andre Alvarez, GLXY executive director; and CEO Jeon Byoung-sang of Lookmedia Entertainment.

Kim Myung-soo made his debut as a member of idol group Infinite in 2010 and expanded his career to acting. 

He released his first solo album “Memory” in 2021 and the mini-album “24/7” in August. 

Kim Myung-soo’s acting credits include “Dare to Love Me,” “Number,” “Royal Secret Agent,” “Welcome,” “Angel's Last Mission: Love” and “Ms. Hammurabi.” 

At the contract signing event, Kim Myung-soo said he is excited to work in the Philippines.

“To see that I’m sharing this moment with so many of you, I’m very excited to be doing projects in the Philippines. Starting today, we will be doing a lot of projects here in the Philippines,” said Kim Myung-soo. 

“This is not just a commitment of our contact signing today but also a shared vision with Mr. Jeon of Lookmedia and Mr. Kim Myung-soo,” said Dy-Go. 

“It is our honor and we welcome the K-pop idol, one of the most popular singers, Mr. Kim Myung-soo, to join our company and we will represent him in the Philippines,” said Chuaying. 

On his projects in the Philippines, he said, “We have a lot of magazine shoots. We’ll have more projects in the future so please look forward to that. With this opportunity, we’ll definitely coming back to the Philippines more and learn [Filipino].” 

“As I come back with different shows, different projects, I will be showing different activities, projects so I hope you will look out for them. Universal [Records] has been providing more support than expected for my activities here in the Philippines,” said Kim Myung-soo. 

Dy-Go said Universal Records will be releasing his songs, and hoping that he will have collaborations, drama series, movies and endorsements. 

“Since everyone knows that Kim Myung-soo came from a K-pop idol infinite and he's also doing his solo career. Definitely, we'll be coming up with songs as well, probably next year, recording and collaborations, and also we are also looking out for drama series and movies as well, and, of course, hopefully endorsements,” she said. 

On learning Filipino, Kim Myung-soo said, “We’re making preparations or studies on those projects. Depending on the endorsements or acting projects, we will prepare accordingly for those projects. I’m also looking forward to it a lot.” 

Jeon Byoung-sang said, “Myung-soo is a singer and also an actor who is quite famous in Asia. Definitely, ‘we’ll be making rounds around Asia. Especially in the Philippines, we’ve been receiving passionate support from the fans. That is why to somewhat give back to that passionate, positive energy to his other Asian fans. We hope you look forward to a lot of projects we’ll be doing with Universal.” 

On collaborating with other stars, he said, “We would like first to show what we have before collaborating,” adding that he will be happy to review proposals. 

Kim Myung-soo said there is a difference between him being L in Infinite and Kim Myung-soo the actor and solo artist. 

“These are the things I’m building up in my career in my 15 years in the entertainment industry. Definitely there are different sides of my career that I’ll be able to show to my fans here in the Philippines,” he said. 

On why he chose the Philippines to have a specific projects, he said, “During our last fan meeting, we received a lot of love, support, energy and to give back to that love that we received last time, in the process, we were able to sign with Universal Records. It is really to give back as much as possible to all that support and energy that I received from the fans here in the Philippines. As I do both acting and singing, I’m happy to be showing both sides.”
