At least 200 classrooms have sustained damage due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, the Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The latest data from DepEd showed that the impact of “Kristine” has resulted in P264 million in infrastructure damage so far.
Based on the rapid assessment, DepEd reported 84 totally damaged classrooms and 108 partially damaged classrooms due to STS Kristine.
DepEd estimated that P210 million is needed for the reconstruction of the totally damaged classrooms and P54 million is required for the partially damaged classrooms that need major repairs.
Meanwhile, DepEd noted that 18,645,544 learners are affected by “Kristine,” with the suspension of face-to-face classes in 35,973 schools across 177 divisions in 15 regions.
DepEd said that 754,935 teaching and non-teaching personnel are also affected.
The latest data from DepEd indicated that there are 132 schools with reported flooding incidents, while 214 schools are being used as evacuation centers.
DepEd said it will continue to monitor the impacts of hazards in the affected regions and divisions.
