PNP to deploy over 22,000 cops to secure Marcos' 3rd SONA


The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will be deploying more than 22,000 policemen to secure the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos on July 22.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. said most of them will be deployed at the the vicinity of the House of Representatives while the rest will be present in other key areas in Metro Manila.

Among them were places of convergence and vital installations, said Nartatez who will head the Task Force SONA.

“We will also be creating sub-task groups that will be headed by district directors )of Metro Manila). We will not only provide security but also medical assistance and other forms of help to the public,” said Nartatez.

A total of 22,621 policemen will be deployed; a total of 17,971 policemen will be from the NCRPO; a total of 1,879 Police Regional Offices of Central Luzon, and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, and Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).

A total of 2,771 other personnel will come from the other government agencies.

“We are now preparing through the conduct of simulation exercises in order for us to have an idea on what would be the impact of our security measures on the ground,” said Nartatez.

On the other hand, Nartatez said sufficient security will also be provided in Mendiola, the United States Embassy and Edsa Shrine where rallies are expected to be held during SONA.
