Few other vehicles announce one’s arrival (in all aspects of the word) quite like a full-size luxury SUV. Taking the reigns from the once popular large sedan, the large SUV has now become the favorite thanks to its imposing size, the comfort it offers even over rough roads, and its ability to drive through floods that would scare other vehicles.

With such high demands from its clientele, the New Nissan Patrol is poised to deliver on all those requests. It’s one that truly rewards its buyers with first-class land travel, and best of all, there’s no need to wait months to get your hands on one.

Sophisticated for the city

The current Nissan Patrol boasts of up-to-date styling, featuring Nissan’s brand new logo, trademark V-motion grille seen on all Nissan’s current models and C-shaped signature daytime running lamps on its headlamps. The side features a cabin with tall windows, a subtle stepboard, and sculpted wheel arches that house 20-inch wheels. Behind is a broad tailgate, a sporty rear bumper, and C-shaped taillights with sequential turn signals.

Inside, the Patrol comes with an overhauled interior. The dashboard is bathed in leather, ash wood and gloss black. Those that opt to have their Nissan Patrol in the Brilliant Silver exterior color will be treated to the exclusive tan interior leather. Buyers of Pearl White or Black Obsidian Patrols will get an interior in black leather.

Energized by technology

Nonetheless, all will benefit from the new interior. Of particular note is the new center stack that features a wide 12.3—inch Advanced Touchscreen Display Audio. This screen serves as the display for the entertainment system that has Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, and 13 Bose speakers for a surround sound experience.

It also displays the many features of Nissan Intelligent Mobility. One in particular is the Intelligent Around View Monitor which gives a bird’s eye view of the vehicle when navigating around tight parking spaces, to the display of the front, rear, and curbside cameras when parking into a space.

Lower on the stack are the air conditioning controls which allow for the manipulation of its tri-zone climate control system. It also comes with a covered storage area perfect to hide the phone. The storage area is also equipped with wireless charging, allowing it to be powered up even when stored.

Lower on the center divider is the automatic stickshift with convenient controls for the 4WD system beside. There are also controls for the infotainment system and cameras for a quick glance at what's around. Easily the most interesting new addition here is the refrigerated coolbox that can keep refreshments cold. It can also conveniently open toward the front or the back to more easily access a drink.

Comfort for the captain

Still, for many Patrol owners, the real highlight is the rear seat. It offers ample cushioning, its own air con controls, a fold-down armrest with cupholders, and plenty of legroom. There are also charging ports to keep phones and devices charged.

If seats for five are not enough, there’s a third row, offering additional seating for three more passengers. Both the second and third row can be folded with just the pull of a lever to easily accommodate large and bulky items.

Ready for the rough

Naturally, a fully loaded vehicle such as this needs a potent powerplant to move it along. Clients will never find the Patrol lacking thanks to its massive 5.6-liter DOHC V8. It makes 405 horsepower and 560 newton meters of torque, which is more than enough to haul a full load as well as trailer. It’s paired with a seven-speed automatic with manual mode to truly make the best use of the power.

Despite its imposing size, the Patrol easily floats over all obstacles. That’s because it’s held aloft by independent, double wishbone suspension on all four corners. This is aided by hydraulic body motion control, which assists the damping to return both comfort and better grip on the road. The result is a plush ride that softens any bumps while still returning confidence for the driver to take on any corner.

True to its heritage, the Patrol is still a capable off-road vehicle. Its standard 4WD system is also easy to switch into 4WD-High or 4WD-Low with just the twist of the knob. It even includes preset modes for the road, sand, rocks, and snow.

Few vehicles can boast of such a unique blend of features as the New Nissan Patrol. It has the sophistication expected of a large SUV for use in the city. It has the power and capability to take on the very worst conditions when they manifest. It has the technology to make managing all of its abilities easy. And finally, it rewards its passengers with the luxuries expected of its class.

Those who have earned the right to reap life’s rewards shouldn’t be made to wait. Thankfully, the Nissan Patrol is available and eager to serve those needs. First-class land travel starts at just P4.698M, covered by a five-year warranty, and available at all Nissan showrooms.
