Returning and departing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) now have the opportunity to enroll in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) offices.
This development was made possible through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed between the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and DMW, aiming to facilitate PhilSys registration services for OFWs.
In a statement, National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa said the MOA allows the PSA to establish its presence at the DMW office in Mandaluyong, along with its sub-departments, agencies, regional offices, and one-stop service centers for OFWs across the country.
Mapa said the colocation sites provide a convenient platform for OFWs to complete various tasks related to the PhilSys.
At these sites, OFWs can register for PhilSys, access their ePhillD, seek assistance from designated personnel from both the PSA and DMW, and obtain informational materials pertaining to PhilSys.
“On behalf of the PSA, I would like to extend my gratitude to the DMW for this collaboration to make PhilSys services more accessible to our OFWs,” Mapa said.
“Through this joint effort, we look forward to registering OFWs and providing them the benefits of being PhilSys-registered,” he added.
The agreement was signed by Mapa and Migrant Workers Secretary Maria Susana V. Qple.
The event was also attended by Migrant Workers Undersecretary for Finance and Internal Management Maria Anthanette C. Velasco-Allones and PhilSys Registry Office (PRO) Officer-in-Charge Deputy National Statistician Fred S. Sollesta.
The collaboration between the PSA and DMW plays a crucial role in the ongoing effort to achieve comprehensive registration for the entire population.
As of July 28, a total of 80,194,464 Filipinos have successfully registered with PhilSys. — Gabriell Christel Galang
