Interim guidelines to reduce admin tasks of teachers to be issued soon --- DepEd

As a response to the clamor of teachers to have more time for actual teaching, the Department of Education (DepEd) said it will soon issue interim guidelines to reduce their non-teaching tasks.

DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa, during the post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) discussions last week said the guidelines for the reduction of teachers’ administrative tasks would be issued “in a few weeks' time.”

“Isang napakalaking reklamo ng ating teachers is ‘yung napakaraming admin tasks (One of the biggest complaints of teachers is that they have so many administrative tasks),” Poa said.

“That’s why in a few weeks time, we will be issuing interim guidelines in reducing kaagaran ‘yung (right away the) admin tasks ng ating mga (of our) teachers,” he added.

Poa explained that the administrative tasks of teachers will be given to non-teaching personnel in schools. “That’s why we’re also very aggressive in hiring non-teaching personnel in the DepEd,” he added.

Groups such as the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines have been urging DepEd to implement measures that would lessen their workload and would give them more time to focus on their teaching duties.
