Some Korean netizens have criticized BLACKPINK’s Jennie over her comments about “lazy dancing” during performances.
Jennie was a guest on Dua Lipa’s “At Your Service” podcast where she discussed her career, “The Idol” and BLACKPINK.

In the podcast, Dua Lipa asked Jennie things that people misunderstood about her and she discussed constantly hurting herself while performing because of high heels.
“Over the pandemic and even up to right now, I, I've learned to take care of my body and I've learned a lot about myself, with my health and how my muscles work, how bendy I am with my arms with my, like in every details that I've spent time,” said Jennie.
She added, “And it's all started becauseI would constantly hurt myself during performances and lives compared to other girls. And it was just a stressful thing in my life. I'm like ‘there we go, I fell again,’ like ‘I tripped over again’ and like I realized that even though I had the training days that was more about I need to be good at dancing not how do I keep myself safe and healthy while I'm you know doing doing this.”
“So I feel like I've just disappointed my fans at some point of my life where it seemed like I wasn't giving my best. But I haven't had the moment to say this but I want to say that I did not know how to control my body and like use my body the way I should,” she said.
According to Jennie, “And like something like I just don't do well in heels. You know some people are amazing in heels. Of me, being like one of the shortest girl in the group, I cannot work with heels. I my feet aren't built for even though I I try and you know sometimes when I'm feeling perfectly fine like with my body.”
“But yeah yeah when when I'm like traveling so much and my body's all bloated and my feet are like so bloated I just if I try to dance in heels I just my stamina just goes really down because I know it's uncomfortable for me. So yeah stuff like that I I've wanted to come, not come clean but I wanted to share with my fans that I'm still at a point where I'm learning about myself. If anything so yeah let me let me be the person to share me like from now on,” she said.
While many international fans are sympathizing with her, Korean netizens have criticized Jennie for her comments.
Korean netizens previously attacked BLACKPINK’s Lisa about her contract renewal with YG Entertainment.
Here are some of the comments by Korean netizens on a news article about Jennie’s comments during the podcast, according to blog Netizen Buzz:
- “This is not an excuse that should ever come out of the mouth of a professional”
- “She's only saying this now because she's made all the money she needs. If she was getting these criticisms at the beginning of her debut, all she'd be saying is, ‘I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll work harder.’”
- “You should not be getting on stage if you're not prepared to give it your all. These excuses don't make sense. It just proves that you're not a professional. Please behave in a manner that matches your title as a top singer.”
- “Yeah, sounds like you've made all the money you need, maybe it's time to retire”
- “Reminds me of when Girlfriend danced and sang in the rain, even falling in the middle of their choreo... Meanwhile, idols like Jennie, all because they got to debut in a big agency, can get away with being lazy on stage and still retain their popularity. Please wear sneakers on stage if you can't give your performances your all. How can you even call this an excuse? Tsk tsk.”
- “She left in the middle of a stage at their Australian tour... but still managed to go on a ton of vacation sightseeing in Australia. I can see why she's getting criticism for failing to do her part on the stage. We all get criticized if we fail to do our work at our jobs.”
- “You need to retire if this is going to be your attitude. You don't get to get paid all that money to not do your job.”
-”Can't dance, can't sing, can't act, no body... it's about time her bubble pops”
- “Her mindset is ridiculous... and it seems she's completely oblivious to it. Please take some time to reflect and learn from people who continue to work hard no matter how high up they climb. Do you think your own teammates like Lisa and Rose aren't dealing with their own hardships? And yet they continue to perform without making any mistakes. How can you call yourself a pro with six years of trainee training and still call this an appropriate response?”
- “She can't control her body or mind but seems to have a good control over dating prospects”
- “Then quit? No one's forcing you to stay. You're doing this to put food on your own table so why are you whining to us about it?”
- “You all know she's lying, right? If you look at any of their concert clips, Black Pink rarely wears heels, more like walker type boots. ‘Injured from wearing heels,’ what a lie. She's getting lazy because their contracts are up for renewal soon. Maybe she'll head to Hybe after”
- “What's with all the hate? She's been doing well.. and everyone faces hardships in life once in a while... why are people being so sensitive. It's sad that society has become so hostile towards people”
