With today's widespread accessibility and availability of smartphones featuring powerful cameras, consumers undoubtedly generate an immense number of photos and videos every day. We take images to immortalize almost every moment of our lives, especially the ones worth remembering.

However, as we produce more and more photos and videos, finding a space to store them becomes more challenging. Thankfully, we now have several options that can help us securely store and conveniently manage our growing pile of photos and videos.

Among the solutions available are cloud-based storage services such as Google Photos and Apple iCloud. However, because these services are subscription-based, users must pay more as they store more photos and videos. The recurring subscription fees can be costly in the long run. A network-attached storage device, such as the Synology DiskStation DS223, can be a better option if we need to store files for a long time.

A two-bay NAS appliance, the DiskStation DS223 comes with different features that allow you to store, manage, and access multimedia files regardless of place and time. One of these features, Synology Photos is a photo management and sharing solution designed to help users organize, store, and access photo collections in a centralized and secure manner.

With Synology Photos, users can create dedicated shared folders on the DS223. Users can create albums and invite friends and family to view and comment on shared photos. There are also options to control access rights, set password protection, and even create public links (by enabling QuickConnect) for sharing albums and specific photos with people who do not have NAS accounts.
Through the Synology Photos mobile app, users can back up photos during sleep time in Sleep Backup Mode. Users can also back up data from a USB storage device to the DS223 and vice versa through USB Copy. Backing up from the DS223 to a USB storage device, server, or another NAS device is possible.

Aside from photo storage and management, users can also use the Synology DiskStation DS223 to store videos and music on File Station and Synology Drive, which are accessible via mobile phone.

The DiskStation DS223 not only offers features for data security but also for physical security in a home setting. Like other Synology NAS models, the DS223 has two free camera licenses. The device supports Synology Surveillance Station, a network video recorder (NVR) system that enables home users to add cameras to their DS223 without paying additional fees.

With the DS223, users can have up to 20 cameras on its Surveillance Station. Videos captured have encryption, privacy masking, and watermarks for data privacy. Users can also monitor their home from anywhere at any time using Synology DS Cam, a mobile extension of the Surveillance Station.

For the price of ₱16,799, the Synology DiskStation DS223 is a reliable and versatile NAS device for home users who need centralized storage and simplified data management for their growing repository of photos and videos. Unlike subscription-based cloud storage solutions, the DS223 has several features without requiring users to pay additional fees. If you are considering a reliable yet cost-effective multimedia storage solution for long-term use, the DS223 is an ideal choice.
