Mimaropa cops ordered to maximize use of technology, data analysis for crime prevention
Police Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, has instructed all commanders in Mimaropa to maximize the use of technology and focus on in-depth analysis of data to further reduce crime in the region.
Doria issued the order following the downtrend on crime volume in the Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), the recent was the almost 11 percent crime reduction in the first four months of 2023.
"The use of technology and data is also an important part of our proactive policing strategy. By analyzing crime data, we can identify patterns and trends and allocate our resources more effectively to prevent crime before it occurs," said Doria.
He explained that the proactive approach is aimed at reducing the crime rate in the region by addressing the root causes of criminal behavior and establishing strong partnerships with local communities.
“This is important in our policing direction of taking a proactive policing strategy that focuses on crime prevention and community engagement towards peace and order in the region,” he added.
Doria said such strategy is in compliance with the order of national police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. which emphasize the conduct of aggressive and honest law enforcement operations and community engagement.
On May 2, the 2023 National Crime Prevention Program was approved, aiming to increase nationwide safety and security through a whole-of-government effort to adopt a preventive approach to crime, which includes removing instruments of crime, eliminating criminal elements, and strengthening soft targets with increased police presence.
“We aim to enhance our partnerships and engagement with our stakeholders, both in public and private sectors, businesses, non-government institutions in local communities,” he added.
Records from the Regional Operations Division revealed that since January this year, PRO-Mimaropa has conducted a total of 82 police operations that resulted in the arrest of 273 persons involved in illegal gambling activities and confiscation of a total bet money amounting to P91,300.
On the same period, the regional office arrested a total of 157 drug personalities and seized a total of 443.27 grams of shabu and 831.45 grams of marijuana worth over P3 million and P124,717, respectively.
On illegal logging, a total of 81 operations were conducted that resulted in the arrest of 41 individuals and confiscation of 14,034.35 board feet of illegally sawn lumbers worth P596,123.
Doria also ordered to intensify intelligence-gathering operations to identify and arrest criminal elements in the region.
