The military has not monitored any credible threat in the country's security amid a reported destabilization plot being hatched by retired soldiers to oust President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Saturday, Nov. 4.

"Wala kaming nakikitang ganoon (We don't see anything like that). There is no credible threat to our security," AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar said.

No less than AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. urged active military personnel in Mindanao to refrain from engaging in discussions about destabilization efforts allegedly being developed by retired soldiers when he presided over the change of command and chief of office ceremony of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) and Inspector General (IG) at Camp Navarro in Zamboanga City on Friday, Nov. 3.

Brawner reportedly delivered a speech before the troops of WestMinCom and bared that he talked to some retired soldiers who told him about the alleged ouster plot, to which he asked the retirees to spare the active personnel from their plan.

But Aguilar said Brawner was simply "misquoted" in his speech.

"He merely mentioned the reported efforts by certain individuals to upset the peace and stability that the country is enjoying right now under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.," the military spokesperson explained.

"Therefore, General Brawner again reminded all AFP personnel to remain professional and loyal to their oath to protect the people and the State," he added.

Aguilar assured the public that "there is nothing to worry about" and the military is ready to respond to any security threat.

"We see no security threat at this time or even in the near future," he said.
