In a circular, Manila archdiocese vice chancellor Fr. Carmelo Arada Jr. urged communities to unite together in prayer for peace to reign in areas affected by conflict.
"We encourage our communities to organize prayer initiatives for this intention like the Mass for Peace, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament/Holy Hour, the praying of the holy rosary, or any other celebrations of the Word of God," Fr. Arada said in his circular.
The prayer initiative is in response to Pope Francis' call for all religious denominations to designate Oct. 27 as a day of prayer, fasting and penance for peace.
The Holy Father encouraged members of different Christian denominations, other religions and all those who advocate for peace, to participate in the prayer initiative.
The Pontiff will lead a holy mass at the St. Peter’s Square on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. (Rome time).
