Citing privacy and security concerns, the House of Representatives has told its workers not to use artificial intelligence (AI) image generators.

This was done in a memorandum dated Oct. 23, 2023 and titled, "Use of artificial intelligence (AI) image generators". It was signed by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.

"The leadership of the House of Representatives would like to advise all the members of its community and workforce to refrain from using Artificial Intelligence (AI) image generator allocations which require the submission of photos to create an image which mimics and replicates the moves and looks of an actual person," read the one-page document.

"This application poses privacy and security risks for anyone due to the possible creation of fake profiles, identity theft, and other malicious cyber activities," the memo read.

It further stated: "We encourage everyone to be very vigilant in acquiring applications or sharing information online."

AI-powered image generators are currently trending on social media.

Velasco is the highest-ranked civilian official in the House of Representatives.
