Tipsters who squealed information that led to the arrest of an alleged consultant for the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and eight other fugitives got a total of P7.9 million as reward during a ceremony at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Police Maj. Gen. Benjamin Acorda, head of the Directorate for Intelligence, said the reward is a testament to the police and community partnership in law enforcement and in ensuring peace and order in the country.
One of those arrested was Alfredo Mapano, an NDF consultant who was arrested in 2009 and was re-arrested in 2020 while already starting to have a new life as a government employee.
Two of those arrested are suspects in the Maguindanao massacre while the rest were charged for various offenses that include murder and rape.
“Granting monetary rewards to persons (except government employees) who are instrumental to the arrest, surrender, or death in legitimate operations of Most Wanted Persons is among the programs of the Philippine National Police for the immediate arrest of wanted persons in the country,” said Acorda.
He then encouraged the public to continue supporting and helping the PNP by providing necessary information on criminals and wanted persons for their immediate arrests.
