Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives confiscated a large cache of contrabands when they conducted a surprise inspection of the agency's detention center at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco ordered the raid following reports that some foreign detainees were able to continue their illegal activities despite their confinement.

One of them was reported to have instructed his cohorts in Japan to continue their extortion and drugs distribution rackets.
Among the banned items seized were laptops, modems, cellular phones, bladed instruments, construction tools and large sum of undeclared cash.
The confiscated items were sealed for safekeeping.
All guards and other warden facility personnel were found negative during on the spot drugs test.
More than 80 members of the National Capital Region Police Office assisted immigration officers in conducting the thorough inspection.
Tansingco said surprise inspection will be conducted periodically to discourage smugglers from sneaking banned items into the facility.
A few months ago, alert guards intercepted twice shabu concealed in Korean food containers.
