REFLECTIONS TODAY
To explain the nature of the Kingdom of heaven, Jesus makes stories which we, “modern” people, may find senseless and hard to accept.
Imagine the two parables about selling all that you have in order to have money to buy the treasure discovered in the field or to possess an expensive pearl.
What kind of foolishness is this? It is a losing proposition.
Jesus is telling the truth, tickling your mind that once you discover the Kingdom of God, joy will be in your heart and you will do everything to possess it. You will not let it go away.
You will get rid of what you have accumulated in the past, for they will become of lesser or no value anymore, in order to enjoy the blessings of the Kingdom.
You will make necessary sacrifices, even selling your things with sentimental value.
If we have not given up anything yet that is valuable to us, we may have not yet discovered the Kingdom of God. And joy is still not in our hearts.
We are still busy accumulating a lot of false securities which become garbage in time.
Gospel • Matthew 13:44-46
Jesus said to his disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”
