2 suspects in mauling of MMDA traffic enforcer identified; told to surrender

The Pasay City police have identified two of the suspects in the mauling of a Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcer on Sunday, June 26, and have ordered them to surrender as soon as possible.

Col. Cesar Paday-os, city police chief, gave the suspects up to Tuesday afternoon (June 28) to surrender.

According to the report of the MMDA, the two suspects were identified through their previous traffic violation records.

MMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes said the two suspects were apprehended for counter-flow traffic violation and were only reprimanded.

Artes said there are three to four suspects being hunted down for mauling Zabala.

He said that aside from Zabala who is a retired scout ranger, another traffic enforcer identified as Adrian Nidua was also hurt during the mauling incident.

The MMDA chairman said Zabala, who suffered trauma because of the incident, will pursue the case against the suspects to give them a lesson.

Zabala was brought to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment from several bruises and contusion that he suffered all over his body.

The police reported that MMDA traffic enforcers led by Zabala, team leader of the MMDA Route Clearing Operation, were conducting a clearing operation against E-Trike vehicles passing along EDSA when the incident happened around 2:50 p.m. in front of Dexin Building located along EDSA corner Don Carlos Revilla St., Pasay City.

He said a group of men went to the MMDA truck and forcibly took the impounded E-Trikes. This prompted Zabala to alight from the truck to stop them.
