Two instructors from the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) were able to pass the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Security Certification Session held in Singapore.
Cecilia Bona, officer-in-charge of the OTS Training Program Development Division; and Bernalyn Sison, Training Specialist III, were granted and recognized by the international body as ICAO-certified AVSEC Instructors.
The course was participated in by 15 instructors from Asia such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, New Zealand and the Philippines. They all underwent theoretical and practical exercises.
Participants who gained the recognition will be called upon by ICAO to deliver AVSEC training within the ASTC Network or as part of ICAO AVSEC assistance projects.
OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma.O Aplasca expressed his confidence that the Philippines is gaining ground in the international arena with respect to aviation security.
“We now have two ICAO-certified Aviation Security Instructors. This means that we have instructors who are internationally recognized, more capable to deliver training program for our Security Screening Officers and even outside the country or within the Aviation Security Training Centre network," Aplasca said.
