Zambo LGU collects P2.1 M in fines from ordinance violators


ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Zamboanga local government has collected some P2.1 million in fines from violators of city ordinances from July to August this year, according to City Administrator Mario Yanga.

A total of P1-million was collected from 1,993 violators for the month of July. More than 200 vehicles were towed while 137 were impounded for violating road regulations.

The number slightly increased in August to 2,623 violations. Total fines collected amounted to P1,144,600, based on figures released by the City Administrator’s office.

Majority of the violators were apprehended for driving without licenses or the use of expired licenses.

Other violations include illegal and double parking, expired registration, and other acts which constitute disregard of traffic rules such driving single motorcycles without helmets.

City Administrator Yanga said their operations against erring and colorum tricycle drivers are still continuing.

Violations related to tricycle operation include entering prohibited zones, operating without franchises, and the ordinance against smoking.

The Tricycle Complaint Desk at the Administrator’s office has received 100 complaints from tricycle passengers from Aug. 1 to Oct. 24 this year.
