The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now rushing to complete the detailed engineering design works of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge.
In a statement, the DPWH said the 32-kilometer-long inter-island bridge project will connect Central Luzon and the Southern Tagalog Region.
Information provided to the Manila Bulletin stated that the engineering design works for the project P3.01 billion fund. The cost for the civil works is not yet included.
DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said the ongoing project is 55 percent complete.
Sadain led the marine geophysical survey and geotechnical investigation to evaluate the underground conditions and site characterization of the bridge located over the waters of Manila Bay.
“Although this project still has a long way to go, the huge progress that DPWH and team of DED Consultants have been making recently is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to fast-track its implementation,” said Sadain.
Sadain added that the geological aspects of the site, surface, and subsurface need to be studied in detail before they start the civil works.
“As another intervention to address Metro Manila’s persistent problem with traffic congestion, the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will introduce new expansion and economic growth opportunities outside of the Metropolis with investors now setting up industries leading to the route of promising new land and marine viaduct highway to be built between Regions 3 and 4A,” Sadain furthered.
With the completion of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project, the soon-to-be four-lane permanent linkage between Bataan and Cavite will cut travel time from five hours to just 20 to 30 minutes, Sadain added.
The project implemented by DPWH Unified Project Management Office-Roads Management Cluster II (Multilateral) was developed under the funding of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
