Alex Eala lost steam in the W100 Grodzisk Mazowiecki International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament Wednesday after bowing to her German foe in Poland.
Eala yielded to Katharina Hobgarski, 6-4, 6-3, in the second round to make an early exit after 90 minutes.
Hobgarski, who earned a first-round bye, controlled the match throughout despite brief resistance from Eala in the second set.
Eala broke the German’s serve to tie it at 2-all, but Hobgarski broke back and then held serve for a 4-2 lead to set the game tempo for good.
The loss came after Eala debuted in the $100,000 tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Laura Svatikova of Slovakia.
