CEBU CITY – Don’t expect the tandem of Senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III to join the calls to unity just to defeat a certain candidate.
Senator Sotto made this clear on Thursday during their campaign sortie in this city amid calls by some sectors that candidates should unite to prevent the survey-leading Ferdinand Marcos Jr. from winning the presidency.
“It has been on the table for weeks already. Well, it depends. Unity for who?” Sotto said in a press briefing here.
Sotto said calls for unity will only be feasible if the unification is for him and Lacson, adding a unification just to defeat a certain candidate will be rejected.
“We are running because we have a program. We are not running because we are against someone,” stressed Sotto.
“If the unification is for me, it’s okay. But to unite just to defeat someone, I’m not like that,” added Sotto.
Calls for unification came from the Ikaw Muna Pilipinas (IMP) Visayas, which initially supported Manila Mayor Isko Moreno before shifting to Vice President Leni Robredo.
Nick Malazarte, head of IMP-Visayas, said other presidential candidates should just unite and support Robredo to prevent a Marcos presidency.
Sotto explained that he and Lacson are not backing out owing to their concrete platform of governance.
“I know we have the competence, I have the solutions,” he said.
