Comelec to still defend MOA with Rappler

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will still defend its Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Rappler.

This, despite the decision of the poll body to suspend its implementation.

"Nothing has changed. The Comelec is still going to defend its position on the Rappler MOA," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing Wednesday, March 9.

"We are simply suspending the implementation of MOA. We are not abrogating it," he added.

Jimenez said they decided to pull back a little because there is a pending case before the Supreme Court filed by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

"The Commission found it more prudent to wait for the SC to rule on it with finality," he said.

In a memorandum dated March 8, the Comelec said it is holding in abeyance the implementation of the provisions of the MOA with Rappler.
