BIR exceeds tax collection target in 2021

Personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has been urged to stay focus on their jobs as the bureau sets its target of collecting P2.4 trillion this year.

BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay made the appeal during a recent command conference attended by all top revenue officials including regional directors, even as he congratulated them for impressive collection performance last year.

Records showed the bureau raised a total of P2.08 trillion in 2021, exceeding the previous year's take by more than P126 billion, or 6.4 percent.

"For the second year in a row, the bureau has shown a remarkable performance despite the pandemic and natural calamities that devasted many parts of the country," Dulay said.

He said the excellent collection performance was achieved through professionalism, competence and team work amid the pandemic.

He noted that revenuers vigorously implemented various enforcement programs like Run-After-Tax-Evaders and Oplan Kandado.

Dulay also noted more taxpayers were encourage to file returns and pay taxes due to a number of computerization initiatives, making it easier for them to comply with their financial obligations to the government.
