Cold and fair weather to prevail in Luzon, Visayas due to ‘amihan’; shear line to bring isolated rains in Mindanao

Those who are residing in Luzon and Visayas may expect cold and fair weather in the next 24 hours due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan”, while residents of Mindanao may experience isolated rains due to the shear line or the convergence of warm and cold winds, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, Jan. 15.

“Malaking bahagi pa rin ng bansa ang naaapektuhan nitong northeast monsoon. Nagdudulot po ito ng may kalamigan at magandang panahon dito sa area ng Luzon at Visayas. Samantalang ang shear line ay nakakaapekto dito sa area ng Mindanao (The northeast monsoon affects a huge part of the country. This brings cold and fair weather in Luzon and Visayas. Meanwhile, the shear line affects Mindanao),” said PAGASA weather specialist Nikos Peñaranda in a public weather forecast.

The State weather bureau warned residents of Mindanao to remain vigilant against the possible impacts of shear line such as flash floods and landslides which may occur during moderate to at times heavy rain showers.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said that Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, and Quezon may experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

In the next 24 hours, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may also prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the northeast monsoon.
