Authorities will be conducting a random inspection of vaccination cards in the National Capital Region as part of the compliance with the decision of Metro Manila council to restrict the movement of unvaccinated individuals.
In PTV's Laging Handa regular press briefing, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be helping them in the conduct of random inspection.
“Magkakaroon tayo ng random checking, random po ito at makikipagugnay po tayo sa mga kapulisyahan to make sure na we are really serious on this (We’ll conduct random checking and we’ll coordinate with the police force to make sure that we’re serious about this),” Abalos said Tuesday, Jan. 4.
“Magtutulungan po ang national government through the national police and of course ang mga kawani po natin sa local government units (LGUs) kasama na ang mga private po rito, sa mga malls, to make sure na maimplement po natin ito (National government, national police and officials in LGUs will work together and coordinate with private establishments such as malls, to make sure that this will be implemented properly),” he added.
Abalos did not mention specific date as to when this would start but he said LGUs in Metro Manila is expected to issue separate, yet uniform ordinances to implement the additional restrictions.
He stressed that the upsurge of cases prompted the restriction on the unvaccinated individuals, which he said, is aimed at protecting the unvaccinated and will only be enforced temporarily under Alert Level 3.
“Ang nakakabigla dito -51 percent tayo, or yung tinatawag na growth rate nung Nov. 21 to Dec. 18. Nung Dec. 31 naging 285 percent. At hindi lamang ‘yon, in just one day from Dec. 31 it became 501 percent (What’s surprising here is that the growth rate at -51 percent from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18. Then on Dec. 31 it became 285 percent. And in a span of one day it became 501 percent),” Abalos said.
The MMDA chairman also said that unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals, including children, minors, and those belonging to the vulnerable population, will only be allowed for outdoor activities or exercises within their villages or barangays, depending on the regulations of their respective LGUs.
