OCTA: Metro Manila's weekly average COVID-19 cases below 2,000 for first time since August

Metro Manila has recorded its lowest seven-day average coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases since August at 1,933, independent research group OCTA said on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

"The seven-day average in the NCR (National Capital Region) decreased to less than 1,933 as of Oct. 11. This is the lowest since July 31 to Aug. 6 before ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) was implemented in the region," OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said in a Twitter post.

David pointed out that the reproduction number, or the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual, also decreased to 0.61 from 0.74 a week ago.

Moreover, Metro Manila's positivity rate, which refers to the number of people who test positive given the testing, was down to 12 percent.

The region's average daily attack rate (ADAR) or infection rate, declined to 13.65 cases per 100,000 population last week.

Although the rates are going down, OCTA said Metro Manila remains at "moderate" risk for COVID-19.

The research group assesses the risk level of an area using the indicators of the Covid Act Now that was developed by the Harvard Global Health Institute, Apple, Microsoft, and Bloomberg.

OCTA has pointed out that this may not reflect the ratings used by the country's Department of Health.
