The enrollment in public schools from Kindergarten to Grade 12 officially started on Monday, Aug. 16, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
The regular enrollment covers learners in kindergarten, elementary (Grades 1 to 6), Junior High School (JHS) or Grades 7 to 10 and Senior High School (SHS) or Grades 11 and 12 who will go to public schools nationwide for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, DepEd said that enrollment will mainly be conducted through remote means in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
The enrollment period has been set from Aug. 16 to Sept. 13 which is also the approved school opening date of President Duterte for public schools for the incoming SY.
In areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), DepEd said that parents or guardians may submit the Modified Learner Enrollment and Survey Form (MLESF) to schools located in lower risk areas.
Just like in the previous school year’s registration process, DepEd said that submission of the MLESF is still encouraged through phone call, text or SMS, social media, and online to ensure the safety of parents, teachers, and learners amid the ongoing public health situation in the country.

DepEd is implementing a remote enrollment system for the second time this upcoming school year.
In 2020, remote enrollment was implemented through alternative means of communication that do not require physically reporting to school, such as text, call, email, and online messaging.
Limited physical enrollment was allowed later on to accommodate those who do not have access to remote means. Physical enrollment platforms were established by the schools in coordination with the Local Government Units (LGUs).
Meanwhile, dropboxes and kiosks in barangay halls and schools were also set up so parents may pick up or drop off the forms as part of the enrollment requirements.
Last March to May, DepEd conducted an Early Registration in preparation for the SY 2021-2022.
The early registration was was participated in by 4.5 million incoming Kinder, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners.
DepEd reminded parents and guardians that students who wish to enroll for SY 2021-2022 - even those who participated in the early registration - will still need to formally enroll during the regular enrollment period.
In SY 2020-2021, DepEd said that there were more than 26 million enrollees at the basic education level both from public and private schools.
