NSPC 2021 to be conducted online on Aug 11-13 – DepEd
The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced the virtual conduct of the 2021 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) next week to promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of social media among school learners.

In DepEd Memorandum No. 050 series of 2021, Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said the 2021 NSPC is set from Aug. 11 to 13 and will be conducted online.
Dubbed as the “National Conference on Campus Journalism in the 21st Century”, this year’s NSPC is anchored on the theme “Pahayagang Pangkampus: Kaagapay sa Paghilom at Pagbangon ng Sambayanan”.
Briones said the virtual conduct of the NSPC is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 7079, also known as Campus Journalism Act of 1991 and its implementing rules and regulations (IRR) specifically Rule IX of Section I.
“The Conference aims to capacitate learners, school paper advisers and relevant field personnel with understanding of the importance of journalism by expressing it through different journalistic endeavours and approaches,” she said in the memorandum dated Aug. 4.
She said the 2021 NSPC also seeks to “sustain advocacy on social consciousness and environmental awareness,” and to “provide a venue for enriching learning experience for students interested in Journalism as a career or those who intend to use skills sets learned through campus journalism to give them better edge in their chosen careers.”
She added that the conference also aims to “promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of social media” as well as to “showcase the campus journalistic skills of students across the regions.”
Based on the DepEd memo, conference activities shall include the training workshops on the following:
-Documentary Film (Investigative Report, Science Discovery, Advocacy Journalism)
-Mobile Journalism
-Online Publication
-Development of Instructional Materials on Campus Journalism
-Research on Campus Journalism
-TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting (English and Filipino)
-Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting (English and Filipino)
-Editorial Cartooning
-Editorial and Column Writing
-Informercial
-News and Feature Writing
-Sports Writing
-Photojournalism
-Orientation on the Search for Outstanding Campus Journalism Project
DepEd said it adheres to the rule concerning plagiarism and intellectual property rights in the conduct of the activity.
It asked each region to determine their own official participants (both students and school paper advisers).
“Each region is expected to submit their Official List of Regional Delegates (using the formal provided in the Enclosure) duly endorsed by their Regional Director and send it at nspccentral@gmail.com on or before August 4, 2021,” DepEd said.
It required all participants to register online through http://bit.ly2021NSPCReg following the August 4 deadline of submission.
