Edward Ligas, the leader of the Gwen for Senator Movement, said the group was not discouraged even after Garcia’s repeated public announcement that she was not interested in running for senator.
In a press conference Wednesday, Ligas said more people have approached the group to join the cause.
“Her pronouncement didn’t discourage us. Cebuanos from all walks of life approached our volunteers and encouraged us. Some even asked what they can contribute to the movement,” Ligas said in Cebuano.
Ligas said the group has yet to talk to Garcia regarding the cause.
Tarpaulins bearing “Gwen Garcia Pagka Senador, Ang Probinsyana” markings have sprouted in various areas in the province.
In a media briefing Tuesday at the Capitol here, Garcia again urged the group not to waste and resources for the movement.
“I don’t why they had to spend for these tarpaulins. They can be found in the southern and northern part of the province. It looks like they have spent a huge amount for this. Do not waste your money because nothing will happen with your cause,” Garcia said.
Garcia reiterated that she will seek reelection in the 2022 elections. “I am not running for senator. In other words, I am running for governor again. I thought I had made myself clear that I am not interested in any national position,” said Garcia.
