DLSU implements 'no fail policy'

The De La Salle University's (DLSU) academic council has approved a "No Fail Policy" amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The policy is in effect starting Term 2 of the academic year 2020-2021 until further notice.

"The No Fail Policy means that the grade of withdrawn (W) shall be reported in place of a 0.0. A mark of W means that credit is not earned for the course but it is not considered a failure. The W mark is not included in the computation of the GPA," the university said.

Ineligibility rules are likewise suspended.

According to DLSU, the policy of W instead of 0.0 is applicable to every undergraduate and graduate student, including the College of Law.

Meanwhile, students who are infected by COVID-19, affected by COVID-19 because of infection in the household, being put in isolation, or have problems coping mentally with the COVID-19 situation may secure an excused absence due to COVID-19 from their associate dean.

In November, the University of the Philippines adopted a "no fail policy" where a grade of "4" or conditional and "5" or fail will not be given.
