Mayor Sara warns of property scam using her name


DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte here warned the public Tuesday of a notarial stamp using her name in selling properties in Taguig City.

"It has come to my attention that some unscrupulous individuals are using a notarial stamp with my name to run a scam selling properties in Taguig City," Duterte said in a statement.

Two photos shared by the City Information Office here showed the notarial stamp on a document with the name "Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio" and is valid until Dec. 31, 2020. It also showed a Roll of Attorneys Number, a Professional Tax Receipt (PTR), and an  Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Official Receipt number.

However, Duterte said: "I am also not a notary public nor have I ever applied to be one."

The commissioning of a notary public is provided under the 2004 Rules on Notarial Practice.

"The public is hereby warned of these fraudulent activities and must immediately report them and complain to the PNP (Philippine National Police) or NBI (National Bureau of Investigation). The public should be wary of individuals who use my name to engage in all financial transactions," she added.

Duterte also clarified that she does not practice law anymore and that she is not involved "in the buy and sell of land, gold, stocks, and others."
