By Rizal Obanil The Mandaluyong City government on Monday conducted rapid testing for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on vendors. (MANDALUYONG CITY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE / FACEBOOK) (MANDALUYONG CITY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE / FACEBOOK) The Mandaluyong City Public Information Office in a Facebook post Monday said that the testing was conducted at a market in Barangka Drive. It is the goal of the local government to have all vendors in the city tested to ensure the health of the market goers and vendors. After the major establishments in Metro Manila were ordered temporarily closed under the enhanced community quarantine, the flea markets became the primary source of food supply for many. Eventually though many of the markets got very crowded and proper social distancing wasn’t being practice. Because of this, local government units (LGUs) like Mandaluyong have opted to limit the number of market goers through a market schedule. Under the modified ECQ (MECQ) more business-related activities are allowed and more people can actually be outside of their own residences, increasing the risk of people who practically do business outside their homes like vendors to risk of being infected by COVID-19. Aside from vendors, Mandaluyong City continues to coduct rapid testing for COVID-19 on tricycle drivers.
