Dengue outbreak declared in 2 Puerto Princesa barangays

Doctors are investigating the possibility that the virus was brought by a tourist. According to the Department of Health, dengue fever is the leading cause of illness in MIMAROPA (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and Palawan) region. Puerto Princesa has the highest recorded cases with 303, followed by Quezon with 236, and Narra with 108. DOH advised the public to avoid dengue with the 4S strategy: Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protection measures like wearing long pants and daily use of mosquito repellent, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging or spraying. The World Health Organization said that early detection and access to medical care helps lower fatality rate to below 1%.
