Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chair Martin Delgra has warned UV express drivers and operators to stop the overcharging of fares or risk facing consequences.
"We are now preparing for an inspection insofar as the UV express is concerned and likely we're going to operate on certain areas where there are reported overcharging of fares sa UV express," Delgra said during a Palace press briefing.
"We appeal to UV operators to stop their overcharging because we will have to enforce the rule on overcharging but nevertheless we will conduct, we're preparing to conduct enforcement activities as regards this," he added.
Delgra said they have received complaints of overcharging committed by UV express drivers in places such as Manila, Quezon City, Marikina, and Cavite. At present, he said UV express franchise holders must only charge P2 per kilometer.
The public is encouraged to report to the LTFRB any excessive fares charged by UV express through their hotline 1342, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
"We will take those reports and consolidate them para isahan ang gagawin nating enforcement activity," Delgra said.
He said the LTFRB also plans to review the franchises of UV express operators to include the distance of their routes. He said this would help passengers immediately know the correct UV express fares based on the distance.
"The fare structure of UV is fairly simple. It's just P2 per kilometer, however, we would not know how much because ang nakalagay lang doon yung origin at destination. We don't know the distance," he said.
"Kaya nire-review ko yung policy na pati yung distance ilalagay na rin sa franchise. Malalaman natin tuloy magkano talaga yan at kung saan magbabayahe, malalaman agad ng pasahero whether there is overcharging or not. ," he added.
