To ensure quality tertiary education, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Caraga underscored the importance of “strict compliance” with the Commission’s policies among the higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region.

To discuss important matters related to the opening of Academic Year (AY) 2018-2019, CHED Regional Office - Caraga (CHEDRO-Caraga) officials – headed by its Director Dr. Maricar Casquejo – recently met with Representatives of Caraga HEI Association of Presidents and Heads (CHEIAPH).
Casquejo, during the meeting, reiterated the implementation of the Revised General Education curricula in line with Outcomes-Based Education (OBE). She also reminded the heads of HEIs on the latest issuances of CHED Main Office that include “Policy on the Offering of Filipino and Panitikan Subjects in All Higher Education Programs as Part of the New General Education Curriculum” stated in CMO no. 4, series of 2018; the “Extension Period in the Submission of New or Revised Curricula of Higher Education Institutions for Academic Year 2018-2019” contained in CMO no. 8, series of 2018; and the “Policy on Alternative Learning System Completers and Passers of the A & E Test in Relation to the Implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program” stated in CMO no. 10, series of 2018.
“Strict compliance with CHED policies is important to ensure quality of higher education in the Caraga Region,” Casquejo said.
The CHEIAPH is an organization is currently headed by Dr. Leticia C. Salas who is also the president of Saint Joseph Institute of Technology. During the said meeting, she enjoined the active support, participation, and collaboration among the leaders of Caraga HEIs.
The other HEI heads who shared some of their institution’s practices were Caraga State University President Dr. Anthony Penaso, Father Saturnino Urios University President Fr. John Christian Young, Philippine Normal University-Mindanao Provost and Executive Director Dr. Adelyne Abrea, Hinatuan Southern College President Dr. Juanito Balbutin, and Saint Paul University Surigao President Sr. Rosanne Mallillin, SPC.
Other priority concerns such as campus safety and security, CHED monitoring, data privacy, and the implementation of Republic 10931 or “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act” were also discussed.
