Some comments on Chiz view on Rizal and Filipino youth
Last Tuesday’s report on Senator Chiz Escudero’s take on Jose Rizal’s appeal to the youth provoked the following comments: “...Am taken aback by Senator Escudero’s view on Rizal regarding Pinoy youth. I most certainly agree with you that the good senator should reread Rizal’s works especially “A la juventud Filipina.”
“Although Rizal has been dead for over a century now and I have been away from beloved Pinas for a long time, he remains my hero and I often cite Rizal when trying to inspire our youth to do their best.”
The writer is Christopher Asuncion who lives in New Jersey, USA. He also wrote: “I hope Senator Escudero sees your column and realizes that Dr. Rizal did not mean the Pinoy youth to be “passive” hope but rather “active” hope. At this writing, I received another comment from Chito E. Geronimo of Pasig City who agreed that Senator Chiz did misinterpret Jose Rizal and that he might in future “misinterpret many, many things.”(gemma601@yahoo.com)
