American fugitive arrested in Manila -- BI


An American fugitive, who has been ordered arrested in the United States for possesion of criminal instruments he intended to use in commiting offenses, has been apprehended in Manila.  

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) identified him as Mykir Aphrodite, 43, who was arrested based on a mission order issued by Commissioner Norman Tansingco on request of the US Embassy in Manila.

The BI said that based on the information given by US authorities, "Aphrodite is subject of an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a US district court in Mclennan county, Texas in December last year."

“He was reportedly charged before the said court with unlawful use of criminal instruments in violation of the Texas Penal Code,” it said.  

Under the Texas Penal Code, the BI explained “the crime charged against Aphrodite is committed when a person possesses a criminal instrument or mechanical security device with the intent to use the said instrument or device in committing a criminal offense.”

After his arrest, Aphrodite was turned over to the BI's detention facility in Taguig City pending his deportaton.
