CIDG warns firms vs car thieves applying as drivers

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) warned companies and families in hiring drivers of their vehicles amid a carnapping modus of a group operating in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

CIDG director Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat, Jr. said that the modus was used by 34-year old Roberito Ramos whom they arrested in a follow-up operation in Rosario, Cavite on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 36.

The operation was based on the arrest warrant issued by a Cavite court for a case of carnapping.

He said Ramos is a member of the Fabian Group which is involved in carnapping and gun-running activities in Cavite, Batangas and Metro Manila.

The members of the group would  as a legitimate driver and apply in various companies. Once they are hired, they will take away the vehicle assigned to them,” said Caramat.

“This group produced spurious vehicle’s documents and passed them on to unsuspecting buyers as legitimate. Once their cover was blown by the hiring company, they will look for another company and they will employ the same scheme,” he added.

The favorite target of the group, according to Caramat, are Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators or POGOs).
