PCG nabs 9 fishermen for illegal fishing off Ternate, Cavite


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) apprehended nine fishermen for illegal fishing off Ternate, Cavite on Thursday, Sept. 16.

In an incident report, the PCG said the nine fishermen were caught conducting actual trawl fishing in the waters of Ternate, Cavite.

Upon the initial investigation, the Coast Guard said the motorbanca was also found to be registered as “Ate Janna" but was marked as “Heneral Luna” on its bow.

The apprehended skipper is identified as Rafilo Mina, a resident of Tanza, Cavite. Meanwhile, the authorities has yet to identify the 8 crew members.

The PCG said the apprehended motorbanca was impounded for violating the Municipal Ordinance No. 2 series of 2011 Sec. 51 "Fishing without a license and permit” and Municipal Ordinance No. 2 series of 2011 Sec. 52 "Commercial fishing in municipal waters.”

The nine apprehended fishermen will also face charges for violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 2 series of 2011 Sec. 57 "Use of active gear in municipal waters and other fishery management areas” and Municipal Ordinance No. 2 series of 2011 Sec. 65 "Other prohibitions and penalties.”

The Coast Guard said the apprehended fishermen were turned over to the Municipal Office of Ternate for the filing of administrative charges.
