New research reveals that Harry Styles is the world's most popular celebrity style icon, his outfits are searched for more than any other celebrity in 27 countries.
But for the Philippines, it is Kendall Jenner.
The analysis, conducted by Money.co.uk, uses Google data to reveal which celebrity's outfits the world has been searching for the most. The results show every country's most popular style icon of 2021 and reflect on how our fashion inspiration has changed over the past 12 months.
Ex-One Direction member Harry Styles tops the list of celebrities that people Google for fashion inspiration in 27 countries; including the UK, USA, Canada, Spain, Argentina and Austria. Not just famous for his chart-topping vocals, Styles has also taken the world by storm for his idiosyncratic outfits - from his custom-made Gucci leather suit paired with a faux-fur boa to the lace two-pieced accessorized with pearl jewelry, there's no surprise he has moved up a position over the last 12 months.
Billie Eilish is second, down from the top position in 2020, as her outfits are searched for more than any other celebrity's in 23 countries, such as Belgium, Brazil, Malaysia and Singapore. The singer is famed for embracing oversized and loose-fitting ensembles, reportedly so others can’t comment on her body shape; however, 2021 saw Billie wear some notable pin-up style outfits. Her British Vogue cover this year featured the singer in vintage-style lingerie and the Oscar de la Renta gown she wore to the Met Gala perhaps signals a shake-up in her style.
Third on the list is Ariana Grande whose style is the most popular style in 14 countries; including, Croatia, France, Germany and Sri Lanka. Well-known for her pared-down style and super high ponytail, this year has seen the singer show off a range of stunning high-end outfits during her role as a judge on the TV show 'The Voice'.
Three of the Kardashian clan make it on the list this year, showing that Kim, Kendall and Kylie's style is officially the most popular globally. Possibly Kim Kardashian's most famous outfit this year was the all-black ensemble she wore to the Met Gala that covered her entire body - including her hair and face.
Within the 10 new entries this year, there is only one TikTok star to make the list - Addison Rae. The American 21-year-old may be famous for her dances on the video-sharing app, but clearly, her style is just as enviable as her dance moves - her outfits are most searched for in Greece and Albania.
Winning in the royal style stakes is Kate Middleton (the Duchess of Cambridge), her fashion moments are the most popular in Italy and Mauritius and this year has seen her in a range of outfits - from classic looks on Royal tours to glitzy gowns at glamorous film premieres.
Continent by continent
Africa: For Africa, the most searched for celebrity style icon is Kim Kardashian who comes out on top for Botswana, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Egypt is the only African country searching for the world's most popular A-lister fashion icon, Harry Styles.
Asia: It is a tie in Asia, as both Billie Eilish and Kendall Jenner are the most popular celebrity style icons in six countries. The singer-songwriter Billie Eilish tops the searches in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE and Uzbekistan, whilst model Kendall Jenner is most popular in Afghanistan, Georgia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, and Turkmenistan.
Europe: 14 of the 27 countries searching for Harry Styles' outfits the most are in Europe; these countries are Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Lichenstein, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. Billie Eilish is second on the list of celebrities inspiring Europe's fashion choices, followed by Ariana Grande.
North & Central America: Harry Styles is the most popular celebrity style icon in North & Central America with the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Mexico all searching for his outfits the most. Interestingly, Cardi B is second on the list for this continent being most popular in Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Oceania: The most divided continent on the list; Australian fashionistas search for Kim Kardashian's outfits the most, whilst Fiji favors Kardashian's younger sister Kendall Jenner. Like the majority of countries, New Zealand takes most inspiration from Harry Styles and Papua New Guinea looks to Selena Gomez's style the most.
South America: Billie Eilish's outfits are most popular in South America, being searched for the most in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay. Interestingly, David Beckham makes an appearance as the ex-England footballer is revealed as the most popular fashion icon in Paraguay.
