Residents tested outside Pasay suspected in COVID-19 cases surge

Pasay City residents who were tested for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outside the city and did not inform their barangays are one of the factors being looked at by the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) to be behind the spike of positive cases.

CESU head Mico Llorca told ANC that they have received reports there were cases of people being tested outside the city and did not undergo quarantine in the span of time that they were waiting for the results.

"They would not inform the barangay so these families or these patients will not be quarantined. Then one to two days, we will receive the result and that's the only time where we will be able to contact the patient, the barangay that they have a case," Llorca said.

"So hindi natin alam kung lumalabas sila or yung family members nila so that's one of the reasons, isa sa mga factors na tinitingnan natin (We don't know if they're going outside so this is one of the factors that we are looking at)," he added.

Llorca said that most of those who were tested outside the city were required by their company for their work while some are symptomatic. He said that ideally, a person should be in quarantine while waiting for the results because there is an expectation that it might return positive.

The CESU head said they have reminded the barangays to monitor and to conduct more campaigns to inform their constituents who were tested to come forward and tell the barangay.

As of 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday the city has logged a total of 441 active cases, with 42 new cases.
