For the first-time, the country’s biggest film festival is going digital

Not even the Covid-19 pandemic will stop the Pinoy tradition of having a fun yet meaningful Holiday season with the country’s biggest annual film event—the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

To make sure, moviegoers would still be able to enjoy this year’s entries without braving the threat of Covid-19, MMFF has partnered with GMovies and UPSTREAM to bring these films closer to every Filipino. You can now watch them online, at the comfort of your homes. Apart from making it digital, MMFF 2020 will also feature 10 films in its lineup instead of the usual eight.

Here are the 10 movies for this year’s festival.

Magikland

This film follows the story of a group of children and their fantasy-adventure in the online-gaming world of Magikland.

Coming Home

Directed by award-winning indie filmmaker Aldolfo Alix Jr., Coming Home is a story of a family struggling to find it in their hearts to forgive their father.

The Missing

Set in Saga, Japan, The Missing offers a whole new horror experience for Filipino moviegoers, by combining Pinoy and J-horror styles.

Tagpuan

Written by Ricky Lee and directed by Mac Alejandre, Tagpuan is story of three Pinoys looking for their identity while hoping to find love in a foreign land.

Isa Pang Bahaghari

A star-studded film headlined by Nora Aunor, Phillip Salvador, and Michael de Mesa, Isa Pang Bahaghari is a film that wants to tell its audience about how capable we are of loving purely.

Suarez, the Healing Priest

Inspired by the true story of healing priest, Fr. Fernando Suarez, this film will test the faith of anyone who will watch it.

Mang Kepweng, ang Lihim ng Bandanang Itim

A sequel to the 2017 comedy-horror flick, Mang Kepweng, ang Lihim ng Bandanang Itim is Vhong Navarro’s comeback film, filling in the titular role.

Pakboys

Featuring comedy actors Andrew E, Janno Gibbs, Dennis Padilla, and Jerald Napoles, Pakboys will surely serve a dose of laughter to its viewers. This movie tells the story of a group of “chickboy” friends and how they find ways to regain the trust of their respective wives.

The Boy Foretold by the Stars

Hailed as the first BL movie entry for MMFF, The Boys Foretold by the Stars is a coming-of-age drama about two boys trying to discover themselves and to find love while fighting the society’s judging eyes.

Fan Girl

Officially released at the Tokyo International Film Festival in October this year, Fan Girl is starred by award-winning actor Paulo Avelino who plays a fictional, kinda creepy version of himself as he spends time with his number one fan.

This year’s online MMFF will open on Dec. 25. Each film can be viewed for only P250.
