Even after a year since Typhoon “Rolly” hit the Bicol region, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is continuing its recovery operations by helping the affected communities.

To help the victims of last year's super typhoon to stand on their feet and begin life anew, PRC has been helping those who lost their homes by providing materials to rebuild their homes.

In Brgy. Bubulusan in Guinobatan, for instance, the PRC has completed the delivery of materials for shelter construction on Oct. 26. The materials were needed to completed second batch of houses to be reconstructed.

For this batch, 25 houses are undergoing finishing works in the Rolly-affected communities in Guinobatan.

PRC plans to build 164 houses in total as part of its shelter construction and monitoring activities in the said province.

Including this batch, PRC has already built 30 houses, one in Bgry. Salvacion in Daraga, and 29 houses in Brgy. Bubulusan in Guinobatan.

“What we are doing in the Bicol Region is critical,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon. “We need to help them quickly to rebuild their lives by building their homes,” he added.

Reiterating what he said a year ago, when typhoon “Rolly” hit, Gordon maintained that the humanitarian organization will continue to help those affected by disasters and tragedies.

“Nandito ang Red Cross para umagapay, hangga't makakaya namin, hindi kami titigil sa pagtulong (The Red Cross is here to help, as long as we can, we will not stop helping),” he added.

PRC said it aims to complete all 164 houses by June of next year to be ready for occupancy by the project beneficiaries.

Each house will come with complete electrical works, plumbing, and a water system.
