The Korean drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” bid goodbye to its viewers as it aired its 16th and last episode on Oct. 17 and ended with a bang.

Viewers were drawn to the romance between Yoon Hye-jin (played by Shin Min-a) and Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon-ho) and the colorful people in the town of Gongjin. Hye-jin, a dentist, moves to Gongjin, and meets Du-sik, the town’s jack-of-all-trades.

According to Nielsen Korea, episode 16 of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” on Oct. 17 got a first place rating of 12.665 percent (first place) nationwide (peaking at 13.7 percent), the drama’s highest rating since its first episode on Aug. 28, based on paid platforms cable, IPTV and satellite TV.

This put “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” at No. 14 on the list of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable TV history.

In addition, episode 16 of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” got 13.322 percent (first place) in the Seoul metropolitan area (with a peak rating of 14.5 percent).

Among the target 20-49 age group, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” got 6.5 percent (with a peak of 7 percent) nationwide, and 6.8 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area (with a peak of 7.5 percent).

As a result, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” emerged as No. 1 nationwide, in the Seoul metropolitan area and among the 20-49 age group in the same time slot for all channels.

Based on Nielsen Korea’s weekly cable TV ratings from Oct. 11 to 17, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” ended in first place with 11.556 percent nationwide and 12.274 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area.

“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” captured the viewers’ interest not only in South Korea but in other countries as well.

The drama is also available on Netflix and placed at No. 7 on Netflix’s top 10 shows worldwide to date in October (“Squid Game” is No. 1) and No. 9 worldwide in September, according to streaming analytics website FlixPatrol.

In the Philippines, for instance, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is the No. 1 show on Netflix from Oct. 4 to 15 and Oct. 17. Overall, “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is the No. 1 show on Netflix in the Philippines in October to date while “Squid Game” is No. 2.
