DAVAO CITY - Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang and his wife were brought to the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) on Wednesday morning, two days after they tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The governor and his wife, Nanette, were found positive for COVID-19 on Monday, May 24. Governor Dayanghirang said they started having mild fever last May 19.

In a statement on Thursday, May 27, the provincial government said the two were brought to DRMC in Apokon in Tagum City at 9:00 am.

"Kini subay sa hugot nga rekomendasyon ni Dr. Reden Bersaldo ug ni Dr. Isaiah Jeremi Gampon nga ma-monitor pag-ayo ug mapataas ang ilang oxygen level human nga namatikdan nga wala mawala ilang kalintura ug mas ubos ang ilahang oxygen levels kaysa sa normal hangtod sa gabii sa Mayo 24 (This was recommended by Dr. Reden Bersaldo and Dr. Isaiah Jeremi Gampon to efficiently monitor and increase their oxygen level after it was observed that they still have fever and oxygen levels below normal range until Monday night)," it said.

The provincial government also said that based on their X-ray results, both have pneumonia which was possibly due to COVID-19.

“Kinahanglan gyud sila iadmit na kay dili na nato matag-an ang kalit nga paggrabe sa sakit nga COVID labi na nga si Gov. Dayanghirang ug iyang kapikas aduna usab mga laing sakit o comorbidities, so mas maayo nga proactive atong approach kay basin unya ug mograbe lang ug kalit (They need to be admitted because we cannot foresee the rapid worsening of the disease, especially so that both of them have comorbidities. It is better to have a proactive approach)," Bersaldo, Davao Oriental Provincial Health Officer, added.

The provincial government also said that based on the report of Dr. Bersaldo Wednesday night, it was observed that their condition has improved.
