Oscar best supporting actress Youn Yuh-jung of the movie “Minari” was bestowed South Korea’s highest Order of Cultural Merit by the government during the 2021 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), which was held on Oct. 28.

Veteran Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung returned to South Korea on May 8, two weeks after making history by winning best supporting actress at the 93rd Academy Awards.

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in and Korean stars congratulated Youn Yuh-jung for winning best supporting actress at the 93rd Academy Awards for her role in the film “Minari.”

This was not the first time that Youn Yuh Jung made the headlines while making a historic victory. It can be recalled that the actress also made a controversial statement while making her acceptance speech for the BAFTA Awards for another win for “Minari”.

So the 93rd Oscars is done and dusted, with the trend for ethnic diversity and gender inclusion playing major roles in what this Oscars was all about.

Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung and Korean-American actor Steven Yeun, stars of the film “Minari,” made history by garnering Oscar nominations on March 15.

Filipino film “Mindanao” and the Korean movie “The Man Standing Next” have been chosen as among 93 entries eligible for consideration in the International Feature Film category for the 93rd Academy Awards.
