Was Pasig City congressional candidate lawyer Christian Sia trying to "copy" somebody when he cracked his now infamous lewd joke about single mothers during a local sortie?
Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo raised this possibility on Friday, April 4 as he joined the growing list of personalities who condemned Sia's action.
'Siguro kung may ginagaya siya na medyo bargas yung bunganga, hindi maganda (Maybe he's trying to copy somebody with a foul mouth, that's not good)," Tulfo said in a chance interview.
Sia has been the subject of a viral video when he told his audience: "Para sa mga solo parent ng Pasig, minsan sa isang taon ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa—‘Nay malinaw nireregla pa—at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin. ‘Yun hong interesado magpalista na sa mesa sa gilid.”
(To the solo parents of Pasig, to those solo mothers who still get their period once a year--I want to clarify, those with their period--and who get sad, once a year they can have sex with me. Those who are interested can list up on that table on the side.)
"Ang masasabi ko lang, R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Respect. Yun lang ho (All I can say is, respect. That's it)," Tulfo said in reaction to this.
"Sa mga pulitiko na rin, hinay-hinay po tayo. Tignan po na rin yung mga audience. Pero kahit na. Wag na natin gamitin yung mga ganung mga bagay (To my fellow politicians, take it easy. Let's read the room. But even so. Let's not resort to those things)," added the leading senatorial bet.
"Kung nagbibiro ho tayo, sana maging sensitibo tayo. Politician ka, magiging leader ka one day after this election. Eh makakasakit ka ng damdamin (If we're going to crack a joke, let's be sensitive. You're a poltician, you will become a leader one day after this election. You'll end up hurting feelings)," Tulfo noted.
Sia has since apologized for his remarks, but blamed the uploader of the video for his current woes.
